Reputation

A running score of how the community has responded to a user's contributions.

What reputation represents

Reputation is a single number attached to every account, tracking how the community has responded over time to the concepts, claims, and reviews a user has posted. It rises and falls as other users vote on that content. It is a measure of engagement and community response, not a credential. It is, however, used to unlock certain privileges and features on the platform.

Reputation and verification

Reputation is not the same thing as being a verified user. Verification is a separate, manually granted designation indicating that a user's identity or credentials have been confirmed. A user can be verified with low reputation, or unverified with high reputation.

Reputation and claim truth

Reputation also has no bearing on whether any individual claim is true. Whether a claim is supported or challenged is determined by the evidence and reasoning laid out in reviews from subject matter experts, not by the reputation of the person who authored the claim, wrote a review, or cast a vote. Keeping these signals separate is intentional: it prevents the platform from favoring popular users over correct ideas.

How you gain and lose points

Reputation is driven entirely by votes cast on a user's concepts, claims, and reviews. When someone votes on your post, you gain or lose the corresponding points.

An upvote on one of your posts adds 10 points; a downvote subtracts 2 points. If a voter later changes or removes their vote, the reputation effect of their original vote is reversed accordingly.

How deletion affects reputation

If a post is deleted, any reputation it earned or lost from votes is reversed, since the content is no longer part of the ledger. If the post is later restored, those reputation effects are reapplied, returning the author's score to what it would have been had the post never been deleted.

Reputation privileges

These are the privileges that users can unlock as their reputation grows. More privileges will be added in the future as the community grows.
